Hiya there.

My group recently decided they missed TROS campaigns and want to revist those difficult, yet satisfying rules. I got my Blade Core Book v01 in 2013 and before I do anything I wanted to ask 2 silly questions.

1. Is free version 01 mightly different from fresh one? If so, where are main differences located?
2. AFAIR Blade was based on d12 and fixed Target Number (8?). Would it be possible to convert it to d10s which we have in abundance and say set TN at 7?

Thanks in advance for answers

Hello.
On question 2, I am not game designer but a lot of thought went into the d12 option. I was also reluctant to buy into lots of d12’s but in the end it was not such a big problem. I think the game is better for it and it makes a change to roll a marginalized dice :)

Thanks for an answer. Is there any chance I could obtain more info? Like examples how does it make game better? :)

Mostly from the combat simulation.
It allows more granularity between the weapons.
Reduce the dice and similar weapons will blurr into one

Sorry for being so late in replying, I was away for some time, with limited internet access. Luckily, Allan has been helping you out.

The dice do indeed make difference. Otherwise we would not have undertaken the major and unpopular step of going to d12. They simply give us one more viable TN where ATNs and DTNs are concerned, thus allowing us to make pretty much all weapons different in their handling, yet still viable. In TRoS, or mainly in TFoB, the differentiating of the weapons ended us with quite a few historically very effective weapons that nobody would touch them with a stick, so bad had their stats become.

But if you really want to go ahead and port, it is actually quite simple. Use d10 TN 6 for d12 TN 7 and go up or down by 1 on the d10 TN whenever the d12 TN goes up or down by 1. You will encounter little problems — combat excepted. Here, some weapons will develop the kind of poor TNs that they are no longer viable, as outlined. But if you don’t mind that everybody is only ever using swords…

As far as the free edition is concerned: The rules are all there. But there are some plain errors in there, as well as some problems that we noticed and ironed out only during the ultimate testing. Some mechanics (Stealing Initiative, for example, if I remeber correctly) simply work very poorly in the free edition, to the point that I would call it a broken game, if it was actually the finished game.
