Cur­rently I play in group thats focus is fast and lite game play, but I want more detailed com­bat. In the past, I have played quite a bit of GURPS but now I am want­ing to try even more detailed com­bat. I build my adven­tures using a GM emu­la­tor cur­rently and have been toss­ing the idea around of run­ning the Mythic GM book along side some­thing even more crunchy than GURPS when I have a down week­end and need some­thing to work on rpg wise.

Not sure if any of you are famil­iar with Mythic but basi­cally you can ask its built in “Oracl“e ques­tions and get answers based on per­cent­ages of suc­cess. It can also gen­er­ate “key words” to estab­lish ele­ments within the world such as encoun­ters and NPC traits etc.

I have used it to build adven­tures for my last 4 groups using Bar­bar­ians of Lemuria (which is rules lite and very fast play) but hav­ing a hard time deter­min­ing if Blade is a group depen­dent sys­tem or if a solo char­ac­ter that might be slightly over­pow­ered could work within the rule set in a cam­paign set­ting, not just a one shot with com­bat.

I have read the few reviews and opin­ions of the game across the web (rpg and red­dit mostly) and it seems like it could do solo PC with help from Mythic to guide the adven­tures, but I am look­ing for advice from peo­ple who have actu­ally played the game before I com­mit to buy­ing and study­ing the rulesys­tem.

The com­bat looks great and I think an ora­cle could eas­ily com­pen­sate for a human oppo­nent with some tweak­ing, its the rest of the sys­tem includ­ing the pas­sions and what­not that I can­not get my head around, with respect to a solo player char­ac­ter.

Blade looks pretty awe­some but I have nobody around to even try to get into a ses­sion with, curi­ous to hear any­ones thoughts on the mat­ter and even more inter­ested if some­one has run a solo PC cam­paign (either soli­taire or with a friend).

I’m not famil­iar with Mythic. But I think I can safely say that Blade fits your bill. The PCs in Blade are not only slightly over­pow­ered. It’s a Sword and Sor­cery game, and the PCs are ment to resem­ble leg­endary heros like Conan, Imaro, Kane or Elric. They stand way above the aver­age and the Pas­sion mechanic makes them even more pow­er­full.

Blade fits solo play­ing per­fectly. Maybe it’s even bet­ter hav­ing just one player than four of them — because a group of super heros can become a prob­lem from time to time.

I pre­fer the ora­cle sys­tem from Con­jec­tural role­play­ing gm emu­la­tor, infact all of the Zach Best mate­r­ial. I dont think Mythic did an ora­cle (back sev­eral years), with yes, no, yes and, yes but etc, and the surge count.

Ironsworn is another great resource. I have done some co-​op and refed. Some great its in this game.
